Reps. Harley Rouda Votes to Pass the Save the Internet Act

Statement

Date: April 10, 2019
Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Harley Rouda (CA-48) today voted to pass H.R. 1644, the Save the Internet Act of 2019.

Said Rouda, "The Save the Internet Act is a strong short-term solution that codifies net neutrality's three core principles of no blocking, no throttling, and no paid prioritization," said Congressman Rouda. "I'm satisfied with the bill's transparency protections and prevention of interconnection point abuses that were used to stifle internet connections."

"However, I believe we need to revisit net neutrality's three core principles and focus on the future. The fact is we are using a law passed in 1934 to govern the use of the internet in 2019 and beyond. Congress should be working to pass a modern communications law that prohibits loopholes like zero-rating and promotes competition, consumer protection, and innovation. It is my sincere hope that the House and Senate can come together to enact real, modern, and innovative net neutrality protections."
